It’s funny to think that, when I was a little girl, all I ever really wanted to do was grow up to be a dancer. Somewhere down the road, however, I became focused on becoming a doctor. I studied hard and my exercise was mostly comprised of running and martial arts. Ironically, those were the years I felt deeply depressed and suicidal. Then my life took a turn – a big one. Part of that turn, and perhaps the biggest force fueling that turn, was discovering the art of fire dancing. Specifically, “Poi Dancing.” At the same time, I was immersed in a coach training program that lured me in with the tag line, “If you’re not willing to learn how to dance, then this program is not for you.” I was hooked! I enrolled and spent the last three years exploring, listening to and moving the body as an amazing domain for learning, healing, and transformation. It has been clear to me for years now that music and movement prove to be my most powerful and sacred medicine. Today, I know part of my purpose is sharing that ‘sacred movement’ as medicine for those who struggle as I did. I can’t imagine life without music or dance and I keep envisioning a world where everybody dances. I’ve seen miracles of peace and genuine connection between people who barely speak the same verbal language happen in an instant on a dance floor. Yes!!!! I am so THRILLED to come into a “tribe” such as this one. I can only imagine how beautiful and inspiring this show will be!

Johannes isn’t in the troupe but enjoys movement and music, and was roped into this performance by his girlfriend. He took Javanese dance at school and has studied some Tai Chi and Aikido. The strange guitar he plays during one of the pieces is the “guitalimba”, an instrument he envisioned while on a backcountry ski trip in Colorado and developed in 2007 with guitarist Miroslav Tadic.

Julia Kay, a native of Boulder, has over 15 years of experience in performance, teaching, choreography and directing. Though her passion lives within the art form of Hip Hop, she has training from coast to coast in all styles from ballet to tap. Julia has danced with the Nuggets “Mob Squad”, is a former four year member of the international touring show, Monster Shop Bump’n, and danced at the International Performing Arts Festival in Shanghai, China. Julia is currently teaching at The BE Life in Boulder.

Kristina grew up dancing all over the world. She moved with her family from country to country with dance and family being the stability in her life. She studied in professional ballet schools through out her childhood and finally culminating in a BA in Modern Dance from the University of Colorado. She had several offers to dance professionally in New York and San Fransisco. Today she is an addicted salsa dancer, a certified Hoop Dance and Zumba instructor and a lover of movement. She received her Hoopdance certification from Rayna McInturf of Hoopnotica in California and is very excited to share with you the elements of hoopdance and the pure joy of moving with the hoop.

Paul has been practicing acrobatics in the Boulder area for more than 3 three years, and performing for close to 2. This is his second collaboration with Planet Motion.

Yuki has been a dedicated practitioner of AcroYoga and partner acrobatics for the last 7 years. She is a certified yoga teacher and a certified AcroYoga teacher who teaches in the Boulder/Denver area and abroad. She enjoys the creative process of performing as well as the team building and physical challenges. She’s also a licensed massage therapist whose focus is on Thai Yoga massage. When she’s not working, you will find her outdoors, rock and ice climbing, skiing and hiking.
