About the Planet Motion Community Dance Troupe
Who we are:
Planet Motion is a Boulder community dance troupe comprised of about 30 women and one man ranging in age from 15 to 63, of diverse lifestyles and life stages – we have maidens, mothers, wise women, straight, lesbian, married, single, divorced, re-married, earth, air, water, and fire signs, church goers, Atheists, Buddhists, Shamanists, Christians, Earth Culturists, and pet owners; We hail from Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Chicago, North Carolina, and Boulder; we have diversity of dance experience, from classically trained and dance teachers to recreational and novice dancers. We have all fitness levels and abilities; we have all body types, sizes and stages – tall, short, large, small, medium, pregnant, post-partum, menopausal, post menopausal, recovering, and pubescent! We are artists, management consultants, optometrists, yoga teachers, software programmers, therapists, students, freestyle ski coaches, and hospice workers, to name some. We also dance on horses, hike, play musical instruments, travel, knit, wind surf, sketch, fly ultra light planes, and sing in rock and roll bands, for example. We are educated; many of us have multiple degrees. We are regular people.
What we do:
We come together and dance twice a week over a period of months, during which time we learn and help to create what culminates in a masterful performance. In the process, we create and hold Sacred Space, where troupe members feel safe to be vulnerable and authentic. We dance our hearts out, healing ourselves and the planet. We have fun. We honor our own and each others’ personal journeys in life and around our bodies, understanding the intimate and often sensitive nature of our experiences. We are committed to living our intentions, wielding our power, speaking our truth, cultivating forgiveness and loving others. This process is hugely transformative, and we work our butts off (literally, sometimes). Through intensive-type rehearsals, we deeply shift on an intrinsic level of soma, psyche, heart and spirit. We have the chance to collaboratively create our shows. In creating something together, we experience the joy and frustration of the process, and we deliver a masterpiece in the end that is ours, together, and we get to share it with our larger community.
